FG to pay N20,000 monthly to 1,000 youths for drainage clearing

Festus Keyamo, Minister of State for Works and Employment, said the federal government will employ 1,000 youths who will be paid a monthly stipend of N20,000 for drainage and canal maintenance. 

Keyamo, made this known while addressing the journalists on Friday, May 29, in Abuja in an update to the newly-established Special Public Works programme scheme. According to the minister, the federal government will employ youths across all the 774 local government areas in the country and pay them N20,000 monthly for three months. 

Festus Keyamo, Minister of State for Works and Employment, said the beneficiaries will be employed via the Special Public Works scheme. 

Source: Twitter Keyamo, who disclosed that N42.6bn has been allocated for the scheme, further claimed that the programme will commence on October 1, 2020. He further said that a website will be created where the names of beneficiaries and parties involved will be listed when the programme kick-starts. 

Speaking further, Keyamo described the Special Public Works programme as the masses centred and biggest social intervention schemes in a short time. Earlier, the minister vowed to resign his appointment should the SPW programme targeted at the poor hijacked by the self-interested politicians.
